Here's the lowdown on a list of pubs and bars for students can easily get to from their second year university accommodation, and what you can expect from a night out in Plymouth.

Enjoying drinks at the best student pubs in Plymouth

Roam Brewery

Located on Weston Park Rd, this microbrewery has awesome beers made on-site and delicious pizzas. Great value and friendly service!

Bulletproof Brewing

Based on Mutley Plain, this is another indie micro Brewery serving their own beers. You can enjoy an amazing Zephyr Burger at the same time.

Bar Rakuda

Situated in the heart of the Barbican, enjoy your alfresco with cocktails and live music outside in the seating area. Open late with regular band and Djs.

Kitty O’Hanlon’s

Known as Kitty O’Hanlons since 1994, this was the first ‘Irish’ pub in Plymouth and the best.

  • Offering quality food and drink.
  • Enjoy the wonderful traditional atmosphere.
  • Live music is a regular here - kick off your great night out at Kitty O'Hanlon's where the music is LIVE and the atmosphere is GREAT.
  • You can be assured a great welcome when you walk through the door.
  • A must for the 6 Nations Rugby

Salumi Bar and Eatery

Bar & Eatery with gloriously sunny beer garden, sister restaurant of Rock Salt Cafe. Cask Marquee real ales, top cocktails and delicious food. Be sure to check out the new mural on the outside.

The Bank

This is a beauty of a Plymouth pub.

The Bank may be one of the most handsome pubs in Plymouth, being a rare survivor of World War II bombing raids, but there's plenty of substance behind the style...

Unsurprisingly a former bank, this characterful listed building is as elegant on the inside as it is on the out, with an intriguing little foyer and lots of original features. The wide range of beers and hearty pub food are a big draw for locals, as is the heated pub garden, which is always packed with people over the summer. There is also a handy stage area that's perfect for live bands and karaoke.

For those at uni, Pryzm is open four or five nights a week and is probably one of the places you will find yourself most nights out, especially during the week.

  • It is the biggest nightclub in the city with four different rooms, including the beloved 'Disco' room.
  • Check out the official UPSU students night which is normally themed.
  • You'll be able to get your hands on £1 drinks and the club also host regular competitions and themed nights with 'celebrity' guests.

On North Hill sits Switch, and it's just as popular with Plymouth punters. During the day Switch serves a range of tea and coffees and homemade cakes as well as offering £1 a pint every Monday till 2 am and every night between 11 pm and 12 am.

With a recent £200,000 makeover, the nightclub is now one of the first in the South West to have cocktails on draft.

With VIP dancefloors, mobile charging lockers and UV walls also installed, you'll be guaranteed a great night out.

At the other end of town on Union Street, you'll find Plymouth's Revolution, serving food and cocktails during the day and opening up as a nightclub with two rooms of music until 3 am most evenings.

Sunday Club is a popular night among students and you can grab yourself a Revolution Card which will give you discounted drinks all year round, including cocktails, beer, prosecco and Revs' famous 'shot sticks'.

This national chain is a great place to catch all the latest sport being shown as well as order a bite to eat during the day.

In the evening, though, the Aussie-themed bar turns into a nightclub, and is pretty popular for its fantastic two-for-one drinks deals.

You can also get your hands on a "mates' rates" card to get further drinks offers and 20 per cent off food all of the time.

Fever & Boutique is next door to Revs and is one of the newer additions to Plymouth nightlife.

With two rooms and two DJs, Fever frequently hosts events and offers various drinks deals.

If you've just been paid your student loan and looking for a classier kind of night then The Treasury is your place.

Also a bar and restaurant with a private function room, The Treasury offers a wide and varied drinks selection.

And if you really want to celebrate in style, you can get yourself your very own Personal Table Waiter too.

Slug and Lettuce

If you're thinking of getting the girls together for some cocktails then this is your place.

The Slug and Lettuce serves lovely food, has gorgeous decor and also has two-for-one offers on cocktails most of the time.

University Of Plymouth Student Union

As well as supporting many student campaigns and being there for general study support, the SU is an integral part of any student's social life.

Enjoy many fun-filled evenings out at the SU with an array of events and drinks deals any cheaper around the city.

Marjon University Student Union

Considerably smaller than Plymouth's SU, Marjon's is just as mighty.

The team also works hard to ensure they put on as many events as possible in the heart of the university.

It is definitely where every good night out should start, and sometimes end too.
