What is the Barcode cinema in Plymouth?
When students talk about “the Barcode cinema”, they mean the big Cineworld complex at Drake Circus The Barcode in the city centre, just down from the main shopping centre. It has multiple screens, including IMAX and 4DX, so it is usually the first choice for big blockbuster releases, late‑night showings and student cinema trips after a day in town. From most of our student houses in PL4 you can walk there in 10–20 minutes, which makes it easy to catch an evening film and stroll home afterwards without worrying about buses.
What is the Cineworld Plymouth telephone number?
If you need to contact Cineworld Plymouth directly – for example to check accessibility, lost property or a particular screening – the main telephone number listed for the cinema is 0330 333 4444. You will usually get automated options first, but there is also plenty of information on the Cineworld Plymouth page online, including film times, ticket prices and details of IMAX and 4DX screenings, so it is worth checking the website or app before you call. Whenever we have tenants with specific access needs, we recommend contacting the cinema ahead of time so your visit is as smooth and stress‑free as possible.
Is there parking at Cineworld Plymouth in the Barcode?
Yes – the cinema sits above a large multi‑storey car park at Drake Circus The Barcode, with lifts taking you straight up to Cineworld and the restaurants. Parking is pay‑on‑exit and prices can feel a bit steep in the daytime, but many reviewers point out that evening tariffs are a set, lower price, which works better for student budgets if you go after 5pm. Quite a few of our student tenants share lifts and split the parking cost for film nights, which often works out cheaper than multiple bus tickets and gives you a safe, well‑lit place to leave the car in the city centre.
Is it better for students to go to Cineworld at the Barcode or Vue Plymouth?
Both cinemas are popular with students, but they offer slightly different experiences, so most people end up using both depending on the film and the night out they have in mind. Cineworld at the Barcode has IMAX and 4DX plus loads of chain restaurants and bars next door, while Vue at Barbican Leisure Park is known for comfy recliner seating, free on‑site parking and competitive ticket prices, which can make a big difference if you are watching films regularly. When we are chatting to students on viewings, we tend to say: use Cineworld for the big “event” blockbusters and Vue for more relaxed, good‑value midweek showings or marathon film days with friends.
Which student areas are closest to Cineworld Plymouth at the Barcode?
If you love a regular cinema trip, living in and around North Hill, the city centre or the Barbican gives you the easiest access to Cineworld at the Barcode, as you can walk there and back without needing a taxi. Mutley Plain and Greenbank are also popular with our student tenants; they are slightly further out, but still within walking distance or a short bus ride, and you are close to plenty of shops and takeaways for post‑film food. When you register with Tudor Price Lettings, just tell us how often you head to the cinema and we can suggest student houses that keep you close to your favourite screen as well as the university campus.
